How to Fix a Windows Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) | Tom’s Hardware.
To start, I was playing League of Legends, and mid-game my computer had force restarted itself and a blue screen came up and said it was a nmi hardware issue. Clueless as I was, I let it restart and logged back onto the computer. I then went on and reconnected to the game and within a minute the exact same result happened. After this, I researched my problem and attempted several solutions other people had tried and that included turning off the force restart.
Instead, my game just froze and I had to force shut down my computer and keep looking. Eventually, I tried the Microsoft Support Chat and the technician had determined it was a graphic or video related issue.
They then went on and suggested to me that I update my video and graphic drivers and talk to a Dell representative. So, the next step I took was using Dell’s diagnostic test and it showed that everything was fine and everything passed the test. After that, I contacted Dell using my land line and the representative and I had tried to work it out. However, when we tried to uninstall the graphic drivers a blue screen with tick marks in the shape of a vertical line came up.
I had to force shut down my computer. The process worked when in safe mode, however when I went back to the normal mode it said that they were still there. I don’t know if it was uninstalled or not. But, we ended it off by having me download new graphic drivers for my nVidia card and the intel video driver. We also downloaded a chipset and BIOS driver.
While these were downloading, the call with the representative was finished and prior to the updated drivers, I attempted to play League of Legends again, to see if it was actually fixed or not.
To my luck, it was still messed up. The game froze within 5 minutes instead of 30 seconds. The Dell representative has now resorted to a reinstall of Windows 10 and I would rather not have all of my settings and other information reset. So, as a last option I have turned back to Microsoft and asked the chat once more and was basically hung up on twice. So, I understand this is quite a complex issue to face, but if someone out there could find the solution to this and let me avoid reinstalling Windows 10, please answer ASAP!
I have been dealing with this problem for the past 4 days and just want a solution so I can continue to do things I enjoy. If any additional details are required, please ask! I have run many malware and information tests and could probably provide anything. If you see a blue screen error and still have access to the desktop, the problem likely stems from a recently installed app, outdated driver, or Windows 10 update.

Opening Windows in Safe Mode is another way to tackle the blue screen of death. Like System Restore, you can access Safe Mode through the advanced startup settings. There are a lot of details to learn about, and minutiae to address, if you want to put this tool to work on crash dumps. It also presents crash dump data in a highly-readable form. As an illustration, I forced one of my test laptops a Lenovo ThinkPad X Yoga to blue screen at an administrative command line. Warning: typing this string into an administrative command prompt or PowerShell session will crash the PC immediately. Because most if not all Windows programs use one or more DLLs this basically makes Windows inoperable.
The top pane of the window shows all the crash dumps it finds on the target PC. Even so, the data in the top pane is important, with information in certain columns of special interest.
Column 1 shows the name of the dump file. For most genuine BSODs remember, I forced this one to happen the stopcode and the error code will often help affected users zero in on causes and potential cures for their woes.
